Precept (“we”, “our”, “the service”) provides AI-powered compliance review tools for registered investment advisers, including a web application at tryprecept.com and a Chrome browser extension. This privacy policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
1. Data We Collect
Website (tryprecept.com)
When you use our website, we may collect the following information:
- Signup information: If you join our waitlist or create an account, we collect your name, email address, and optionally your firm name. This information is stored in our database (hosted by Supabase) and used to communicate with you about the service.
- Content submitted for review: If you use our web-based compliance review tool, the text content you submit is sent to our servers for analysis. Content is processed in real time and is not permanently stored.
- Audit requests: If you submit a domain for a free compliance audit, we store the domain name and the generated audit results.
Chrome Extension
When you use the Precept Chrome extension:
- Page content:The text content of the web page you choose to review, or the text you select. This is only transmitted when you explicitly click “Review This Page” or use the right-click context menu.
- User identifier: If you optionally provide your email address in the extension settings, it is sent as a header for rate limiting purposes. Otherwise, your IP address is used for rate limiting.
- Review actions: When you accept or dismiss a compliance finding, that action is logged to improve the accuracy of our checks.
2. Data We Do Not Collect
- We do not track your browsing activity, visited URLs, or browsing history.
- We do not require or collect API keys from users. All AI processing uses our own server-side credentials.
- We do not use cookies or tracking pixels for advertising.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
- The Chrome extension never runs automatically — it only processes content when you explicitly initiate a review.
3. How We Use Your Data
- Compliance analysis: Content you submit is sent to the Anthropic Claude API for AI-powered compliance review. The content is processed in real time and findings are returned immediately.
- Service communication: Your email address is used to send you information about Precept, including product updates and audit reports you request.
- Model improvement: Review data (findings generated and your accept/dismiss decisions) may be used to improve the accuracy of our compliance checks over time. This data is never shared with third parties.
4. Data Storage and Security
Signup data is stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted by Supabase with encryption at rest and in transit. Review logs are stored securely and accessible only to Precept administrators. All communication between the extension, website, and our servers uses HTTPS encryption. The Anthropic API key used for compliance analysis is stored securely on our server and is never exposed to end users.
5. Third-Party Services
Precept uses the following third-party services:
- Anthropic (Claude API):Content submitted for review is transmitted to Anthropic's servers for AI processing. See Anthropic's privacy policy.
- Supabase: Used to store user signup data and manage authentication. See Supabase's privacy policy.
We do not share your data with any other third-party services, advertisers, or data brokers.
6. Data Retention
Signup information is retained for as long as you have an active account or are on our waitlist. Review logs (content length, findings, and accept/dismiss actions) are retained to improve compliance check accuracy.
